‘Hollywood’ Meghan Markle ‘steps up style stakes’ compared to Kate’s Australia wardrobe

Meghan Markle is currently on a 16-day tour of Oceania with her husband Prince Harry, 34.

The pair are following in footsteps taken by Kate Middleton and Prince William, both 36, who visited Australia after the birth of their first child Prince George, five.

How has Meghan’s wardrobe compared to Kate’s as both the women tackled style down under? Meghan Markle wore an outfit worth at least £23,000 to arrive in Fiji with Prince Harry.

Stylists gave Express.co.uk their professional opinion.

Charlotte Balbier, from All the Pretty, told Express.co.uk: “In keeping with her signature style of clean and sophisticated lines Meghan’s Australia tour wardrobe showcases the key pieces Meghan is known for.

“Tailored pieces styled with classic trench coats and heels sit alongside a slightly more feminine and new look for the new Mum to be. Floaty, less structured dresses paired with pretty espadrilles move Meghan’s signature style to a new pretty look for the blossoming bump.”

The stylist claimed Kate Middleton errs on the safe side when it comes to her fashion.

She said: “Kate’s style is more classic, timeless and feminine, opting for ultra sophisticated polished look that plays it a little safer than Meghan.

“With Meghan’s Hollywood back ground she dares to step up the style stakes and follow the trends.”

Of course, Meghan Markle’s wardrobe has been affected by her pregnancy.

Milda Chellingsworth, Founder of Styling For You and a personal stylist, told Express.co.uk: “We can presume that Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, is currently three to four months pregnant based on the timing of her pregnancy announcement.

“Her wardrobe has been created to compliment her changing body during the tricky time of the early stages of pregnancy, when it’s not always the case that you can easily fit into styles and clothing you used to wear before.”

She claimed Meghan has been far more relaxed that Kate in her wardrobe.

Milda said: “The Duchess of Sussex has had an excellent travelling wardrobe so far, with a far more relaxed manner towards her clothing options compared to the Duchess of Cambridge during her tour.

“While Catherine favoured structured dresses and more formal pieces, Meghan has chosen to go for softer lines, flowing maxi dresses and wonderfully relaxed styles – possibly to aid her growing bump.”

The stylist said: “Some of Catherine’s more memorable outfits were the blush pink top & skirt combination by Alexander McQueen, while Hobbs was a favourite high street brand in her wardrobe, as well as Catherine Walker and Lela Rose.”

Meghan, on the other hand, has looked towards up-and-coming brands.

Milda said: “Meghan has been seen wearing up and coming brands from all around the world, including the black dress by Emilia Wickstead, the gorgeous stripey maxi dress by Martin Grant and the cream tailored dress from Australian Designer Karen Gee.”

“The Duchesses have a very different fashion sense, with Meghan loving a slightly more relaxed look while Catherine’s key style being very traditional and tailored.

“This is probably just their own innate sense of style and both appear to be equally relaxed in jeans as they do in their more formal attire.”
