Red Dead Redemption 2 reviews: PS4, Xbox One scores for NEW Rockstar release

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now on PS4 and Xbox One.

And judging by the review scores, the latest entry in the Red Dead series is most definitely living up to the hype.

The game has an incredible 97 Metascore on Metacritic from 78 reviews.

The reviewers have praised Rockstar’s gorgeous open world, the narrative and characters.

Express Online has rounded up the review scores for Red Dead Redemption 2 below.

IGN – 10/10: “Red Dead Redemption 2 stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Grand Theft Auto V as one of the greatest games of the modern age.

“It’s a gorgeous depiction of an ugly period that’s patient, polished, and a huge amount of fun to play, and it’s combined with Rockstar’s best storytelling to date.

“Even after finishing the lengthy story I can’t wait to go back and play more. This is a game of rare quality; a meticulously polished open world ode to the outlaw era. Looking for one of this generation’s very best single-player action experiences? Here’s your huckleberry.”

Metro – 9/10: “Since this is clearly set to be an enormous hit anyway it seems redundant to shower the game with any more superlatives, but Red Dead Redemption II deserves them all.

“We have our quibbles with some of its design decisions but all the most important things it gets exactly right, and the end result is one of the most impressive video games ever made.”

Game Informer – 10/10: “Rockstar Games has outdone itself again with Red Dead Redemption II.

“The up-close portrayal of the outlaw Van der Linde gang’s unraveling is a compelling companion story that blends seamlessly with the original game, and depth and breadth of the open world is a technical triumph that every gamer should experience.”

GameSpot – 9/10: “While Red Dead Redemption was mostly focused on John Marston’s story, Red Dead 2 is about the entire Van der Linde gang – as a community, as an idea, and as the death rattle of the Wild West. It is about Arthur, too, but as the lens through which you view the gang, his very personal, very messy story supports a larger tale.

“Some frustrating systems and a predictable mission structure end up serving that story well, though it does take patience to get through them and understand why. Red Dead Redemption 2 is an excellent prequel, but it’s also an emotional, thought-provoking story in its own right, and it’s a world that is hard to leave when it’s done.”

Forbes – 9/10: “If you have the time and the inclination, buy Red Dead Redemption 2. It’s a great game. It’s an impressive game. Just know what you’re getting into, and do your best to make it through the story to what’s on the other side.

“This review is now nearly 3000 words long, and not nearly long enough for one of the greatest and most vexing games I’ve played in years.”

God is a Geek – 10/10: “The visuals are sublime, and the voice acting from every single member of the cast makes this game feel so grand. Little touches like the cinematic camera angles, or the moments in which you get a great shot in and the camera triggers a short cinematic to see it hit, or how you can tackle the same mission in two different ways depending on what you decide, is wonderful.

“So much care and consideration has gone in to making this game a modern masterpiece, and it shows at every turn. We’ll be talking about this game for many years to come.”

Slant Magazine – 3.5/5: “For as adept as Rockstar is at placing you within a wonderful, lavish world and letting you move within it, they’re still figuring out how to say all that much about it.”
