Man Utd news: David de Gea reveals contract stance amid Juventus transfer claims

De Gea has entered the final 12 months of his Manchester United contract but the club has the option to extend this by a further year.

United have been trying to tie De Gea down to a long-term deal for several months but talks have not resulted in an agreement.

After years of interest from Real Madrid, the Spanish side moved on from De Gea and signed Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea in the summer.

But reports this week claimed Juventus were keeping an eye on De Gea’s situation.

And the Italians have a history of picking up top names on free transfers or below value transfer fees.

United have had a mixed start to the season and face in-form Everton on Sunday.

And De Gea insists his focus is on matters on the pitch rather than his contract.

“What matters is the team and all of us being focused on what we need to focus on, which is winning games, rather than contracts or any topics that can be a distraction,” he told Sky Sports.

“What matters is focusing on football.

“We have an important game against Everton and we have some big fixtures over the coming months.

“I think that’s what matters, rather than thinking about anything else.”

United boss Jose Mourinho was asked about De Gea’s contract issue on Friday and admitted he has doubts over whether a renewal will be sorted.

“I am not confident,” he told Sky Sports.

”I cannot find the word in English, but let’s see what happens.

“Only the club, David and his people can answer that.

“My comment is only that everyone knows how good he is, how important he is for Manchester United and, if the club want to be better than it is and not worse, obviously it would be very important to keep David.”
