Glenn Hoddle: Tottenham hero ‘responding well’ to hospital treatment after studio collapse

Hoddle was rushed to hospital on Saturday after falling ill and collapsing at BT Sport’s studios in London.

The network subsequently cancelled their planned BT Sport Score show which the 61-year-old was due to appear on.

Messages of support for Hoddle have poured in from across the sporting world, including from former team-mates and clubs.

And a spokesman has now provided an update on the retired midfielder, who also played for and managed England.

“The condition is serious but Glenn is currently receiving specialist treatment and responding well,” they said.

It is as yet unknown what caused Hoddle to collapse prior to his scheduled TV appearance.

The Tottenham hero had appeared on BT Sport’s Live Saturday Morning Savage show earlier in the day.

And Hoddle’s colleagues at the network were among those to send well wishes to him.

“Good afternoon and thanks for joining us and welcome to an overcast King Power Stadium where, to be honest, the weather really reflects the mood of all of us,” Jake Humphrey said as he introduced BT Sport’s coverage of West Ham’s trip to Leicester.

“I’m sure you’ve seen the news from earlier today that this morning Glenn Hoddle was taken ill at the BT Sport studios.

“The good news is he’s now at hospital, getting the very best treatment possible.

“But whatever Glenn Hoddle is to you, whether it’s one of the greatest footballers the country’s ever produced, a wonderful colleague, a much-loved family member, the outpouring of love and support today has been quite something to behold and of course all of us at BT Sport absolutely add to that.

“We’re standing alongside you Glenn, sending you our very best for a speedy recovery.”

Humphrey echoed those sentiments just before kick off, adding: “Whether it’s sitting here in the studio, retailing us with tales of his amazing career, or wearing a big old winter coat standing up on the gantry commentating on the matches.

“Glenn is a man whose love, passion and knowledge for the game shines through.

“Glenn, we love you, and we’re with you every single step of the way.”
