Glenn Hoddle: Messages pour in after Tottenham hero ‘taken seriously ill’ at BT Sport base

BT Sport colleague Jake Humphrey broke the news of Hoddle being rushed to hospital on Saturday afternoon.

And his tweet prompted an outpouring of support towards the former Tottenham and England star.

Spurs, where Hoddle started his career and managed, wished the former midfielder who turned 61 on Saturday well.

“Everybody at the Club sends their best wishes to @GlennHoddle for a full and speedy recovery after he was taken ill this morning,” they wrote on Twitter.

“Hugely worrying news that Glenn Hoddle collapsed at the BT studios earlier,” Gary Lineker wrote on Twitter.

“Thoughts are with him and his family. Come on Glenn.”

Chris Sutton added: “Thoughts and prayers for Glenn Hoddle and his family after he was taken ill today.”

“Hope @GlennHoddle is ok,” wrote ex-Chelsea defender Frank Sinclair.

Broadcaster Des Kelly said: “Glenn Hoddle has been taken ill and he’s being cared for in hospital.

“Everyone at BT Sport and, I’m sure, right across football, will wish the lovely fella the very, very best. #getwellglenn @GlennHoddle”

The messages of support for Hoddle came after Humphrey announced BT Sport Score had been cancelled following Hoddle’s collapse.

“Our friend & colleague Glenn Hoddle was taken seriously ill at the BT Sport studio this morning,” Humphrey wrote.

“For that reason there will be no @btsportscore – but we will be live as usual for the 5.30 ko at Leicester.

“Everyone of us is right with you Glenn, sending love & strength.”

BT Sport Score presenter Mark Pougatch reached out to send his own message to Hoddle and his loved ones.

“You will understand why there’s no BT Sport Score this afternoon,” Pougatch tweeted.

“All our thoughts are with Glenn Hoddle and his family.”

Hoddle, who also played for and coached Chelsea, received a message from the Blues.

“Our thoughts are with former Blues boss Glenn Hoddle, who has been taken seriously ill on his 61st birthday,” the club wrote. “We’re right with you, Glenn.”

The England national team Twitter account posted: “Worrying news. Get well soon, @GlennHoddle – we’re all behind you.”

While West Ham sent their own message, saying: “Best wishes to Glenn Hoddle, who has been taken to hospital after falling ill before his pundit appearance on BT Sport today. Our thoughts are with you.”

Former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright added to the outpouring of support, writing: “Hang in Gaffer.”

“Get well soon Glenn Hoddle!” added Kevin Campbell. “He is such a nice fella!”

Broadcaster Bianca Westwood said: “All my thoughts & best wishes with @GlennHoddle. Praying he is ok.”
