Glenn Hoddle: Latest updates as Tottenham icon and BT Sport pundit ‘collapses’ in studio

Former England manager and Tottenham icon Hoddle is a pundit on BT Sport’s Saturday show.

He was set to work today to cover the Premier League games.

But BT Sport presenter Jake Humphrey tweeted that Hoddle has been taken “seriously ill”.

“Our friend & colleague Glenn Hoddle was taken seriously ill at the BT Sport studio this morning,” he wrote.

“For that reason there will be no @btsportscore – but we will be live as usual for the 5.30 ko at Leicester.

“Everyone of us is right with you Glenn, sending love & strength.”

Gary Lineker wrote on Twitter: “Hugely worrying news that Glenn Hoddle collapsed at the BT studios earlier. Thoughts are with him and his family. Come on Glenn.”

Hoddle won 53 caps for England during a glittering career and was celebrating his 61st birthday today.

Hoddle started his career at Tottenham and played for the north London club for 12 years before moving to Monaco in 1987.

He also played and managed Swindon and Chelsea before retiring from action for good to take over as England boss in 1996, leading the Three Lions to the France ’98 World Cup.

Hoddle also managed Southampton and Wolves, while enjoying a two-year stint in the Spurs big-out.

He has been a regular pundit on TV since quitting management in 2004.

Hoddle was a pundit during BT Sport’s Europa League coverage of Arsenal vs Sporting on Thursday.

Tottenham led the tributes for their ex-manager.

They tweeted: “Everybody at the Club sends their best wishes to @GlennHoddle for a full and speedy recovery after he was taken ill this morning.”

And Chelsea tweeted: “Our thoughts are with former Blues boss Glenn Hoddle, who has been taken seriously ill on his 61st birthday. We’re right with you, Glenn.”

Chris Sutton, who regularly co-pundits with Hoddle, wrote on Twitter: “Thoughts and prayers for Glenn Hoddle and his family after he was taken ill today.”

Hoddle’s co-worker at BT Sport, Des Kelly, tweeted: “Glenn Hoddle has been taken ill and he’s being cared for in hospital. Everyone at BT Sport and, I’m sure, right across football, will wish the lovely fella the very, very best.”
