Megyn Kelly: Who is Megyn Kelly? Why has she caused such outrage – what did she say?

Megyn Kelly’s daily show was cancelled on Thursday and NBC chose to run a pre-taped episode instead, which is the plan for Friday as well.

There have been speculations Mrs Kelly would remain with NBC in a lesser role – but sources said that won’t be happening.

Megyn Kelly’s terms of her departure are currently being negotiated by the TV host and NBC News executives, according to CNN.

And a source told People: “They haven’t made an official announcement about the show, but everyone knows what it means when they’re being moved somewhere else. The show is clearly over.”

So what did Megyn Kelly say?

On October 23, 2018, Megyn Kelly was criticised for an on-air remark she made surrounding the appropriateness of blackface as part of Halloween costumes.

Ms Kelly asked: ”But what is racist?

“Because you do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface on Halloween, or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween.

“Back when I was a kid that was OK, as long as you were dressing up as, like, a character.”

The TV host has faced a massive backlash after the comment was made.

Not only has she been heavily roasted by people on social media but her employer and colleagues were also appalled.

NBC executives forced Kelly to apologise – first internally to her colleagues and then to the viewers.

Her internal apology to her colleagues stated: “I realise now that such behavior is indeed wrong, and I am sorry.

“I’ve never been a ‘pc’ kind of person — but I understand that we do need to be more sensitive in this day and age.

“Particularly on race and ethnicity issues which, far from being healed, have been exacerbated in our politics over the past year.

“This is a time for more understanding, love, sensitivity and honor, and I want to be part of that. I look forward to continuing that discussion.”

But Megyn’s NBC colleague Al Roker was not pleased with her attempt of an apology.

He said on Wednesday: “The fact is, she owes a bigger apology to folks of colour around the country.”

This is not Megyn’s first go around with racially-tinged talk.

When the American journalist worked for controversial Fox News, she infamously spouted about white privilege to her audience.

One of Ms Kelly’s comments was: “Jesus was a white man … as is Santa.”

Megyn Kelly landed her contract with the NBC in 2017, after being a news anchor at Fox News from 2004 to 2017.

The NBC deal is worth an incredible $69 million and her move from Fox to NBC was met with a cloud of controversy over her divisiveness.
