New York pipe bomb pictured: US on alert as explosives sent to CNN

The homemade device was sent to the news organisation’s headquarters on Columbus Circle in the heart of New York City.

It followed a succession of multiple pipe bombs flood the US on Tueday afternoon.

Devices were sent to the residences of former presidential candidate Hilary Clinton and former US President Barack Obama.

Further devices were also sent to Senatorial offices in San Diego and Florida.

The US Secret Service says it intercepted ‘suspicious devices’ sent to the homes of Mr Obama and MrsClinton.

The Time Warner building was evacuated after the device was discovred in the post room of the building.

New York Police officials found an envelope with white powder along with a live explosive device at the building.

Two news presenters were on air shortly after 10am ET when a fire alarm was heard by viewers, and the network went to an ad break.

The network reported there were also wires in the package found in the CNN post room.

CNN confirmed the package was addressed to former CIA Director John Brennan.

Mr Brennan, who led the CIA under Barack Obama, has been a regular outspoken critic of President Trump.

It was not immediately known whether the package delivered to CNN was similar to those sent to the homes of Mr Obama and Mrs Clinton.

The suspicious package was later safely removed from the Time Warner Center, with a police ‘shelter in place’ arning around the Time Warner building lifted.
