Mega Millions results: What were winning numbers for October 23? Who won $1.6 BILLION?

Lottery officials on Tuesday drew the Mega Millions numbers in the historic jackpot of $1.6 billion.

The October 23 draw is the biggest lottery in US history and the largest lottery jackpot worldwide.

On Friday, the jackpot was already a staggering $1 billion and swelled by another $600 million when no winner was picked.

No one has hit the Mega Millions jackpot since July 24, when 11 co-workers in California won $543 million.

What were winning numbers for October 23?

The numbers were 5-28-62-65-70.

The Mega Ball number was 5.

The Megaplier was 3x.

Who won $1.6 BILLION?

According to the US lottery officials, someone in South Carolina has the winning ticket.

The odds of winning the grand prize were one in 302.5 million, or a little less than one combination for each of the 328 million people living in the US.

And lottery officials estimated that 75 percent of all number combinations had been purchased by the time of the drawing.

The estimated cash option is about $913 million should a winner choose to take a one-time payment instead of annual payouts over 30 years.

However, that’s before taxes as you would only get about half of the amount after state and federal taxes have been paid.

Had no one won, the grand prize could have grown to a truly eye-popping $2 billion.

Only three other Mega Millions grand prizes have been won this year — $451 million in Florida on January 4, $533 million in New Jersey on March 30 and $142 million in Ohio on May 4.
