Cold and flu: The drink that could treat your sore throat and headache – Dr Chris reveals

Flu is a common viral infection that can cause a high fever, aching body and chesty coughs.

It’s caused by an infectious virus that can be spread by coughs and sneezes, warns the NHS.

But making some hygiene or lifestyle swaps could lower your chances of infection, revealed ITV This Morning’s Dr Chris Steele.

Drinking more orange juice could help to speed up your recovery if you become infected, he said.

Adding more orange juice to your daily diet could help to speed up your recovery from flu, said Dr Chris.

It contains vitamin C that has been provided to cut the duration and severity of a cold, he said.

“They’re forecasting a cold spell, which means the winter illnesses will be upon us,” said Dr Chris.

“Vitamin C is a popular one [for cold and flu treatment], but in fact there’s no strong scientific evidence that it will prevent you from getting a cold.

“There is some evidence that it could shorten the duration of a cold, or the severity.

“It won’t do any harm. Different people will swear by certain remedies.”

Although it may be cold outside during the winter, it doesn’t need to be the unhealthiest time of the year, said the NHS.

You can prevent winter tiredness by getting as much natural daylight as possible.

Similarly, it’s crucial to eat more fruit and vegetables, despite the temptation to eat comfort food.

Adding more protein or vitamin B12 to your diet could help you to avoid viruses.

Milk is a great choice of protein for topping up your immune system, it added.

Staying active during there winter is also crucial to maintaining your overall health.

If you’re not keen on running outside, you can do some exercise routine at home.

That includes doing star jumps, squats and burpees, said the NHS.

If you do come down with a cold, that doesn’t necessarily mean you shouldn’t exercise.

Listen to your body, and understand that if you exercise with a fever, you’re more likely to feel worse afterwards, it said.
