Calumet Shooting: HORROR as multiple people shot on motorway in Illinois

Illinois State Police (ISP) said the incident occurred around 7.55pm (1.55am BST) local time near 123rd street.

The victims were taken to the nearest hospital in a critical condition.

The exact circumstances of the shooting are not yet clear.

According to reports, the car of three individuals caught up in the incident crashed into a pole following the shooting.

Police have not said how long the roads will be closed for the investigation.

They are expected to reopen overnight.

The shooting was the second one on the urban motorway this week.

On Friday, another shooting led to the closure of all northbound lanes.

Dozens shell casings littered the road and Illinois State Police closed down almost 10 blocks of the motorway.

The shots were fired near the West Pullaman neighborhood on the Far South Side.

According to ISP, a driver called the police at 1.48am to report he was merging into northbound I-57 from 127th Street when someone fired at his car from another vehicle.

The shooting was the second one on the urban motorway this week.
