Barcelona news: Marc-Andre ter Stegen reveals Champions League plan without Lionel Messi

Marc-Andre ter Stegen says the club are taking every trophy seriously this season.

The German joined Barcelona from Borussia Monchengladbach back in 2014.

In his first season, the club won the treble under Luis Enrique including the Champions League in Berlin.

Ter Stegen had to settle for reduced minutes and was the club’s Champions League goalkeeper after they operated a rotational system with Claudio Bravo.

Barcelona have made a fine start to this season’s Champions League.

They have acquired maximum points from two matches, the same as Inter Milan who they face on Wednesday at Camp Nou.

Barca will be without Lionel Messi who fractured his arm in the win against Sevilla last weekend.

Despite this, Ter Stegen is confident the club can fight on all fronts.

“We start every season with the aim of winning everything,” Ter Stegen told El Mundo Deportivo.

“Last year something happened to us that should not happen, as we lost in Rome, but this is something we should learn from, it happens in football.

“We have already shown against Paris Saint-Germain that we have the possibility of winning in every scenario, regardless of the situation.

“The Champions League is an extremely complicated competition that we have not succeeded in recently, but we look to win everything.

“Lionel Messi’s absence? Obviously he is a key player in our team and it will not be easy to replace him, but this is what we are working on now.

“I am very grateful to this club and the fans for supporting me at all times since I have joined, be it good or bad – I am very grateful.”

The Germany goalkeeper remains hopeful that Messi will finish his career at Barcelona.

“Leo is happy here, he feels comfortable, he’s spent his whole life here and we want him to feel comfortable,” he added.

“Before the injury, as always, he was in a very good moment.”
