As Pixel 2 price drops, Google reveals big new upgrades

Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL were made more affordable than ever shortly after the reveal of the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL.

Pixel 2 launched for £629 last year if users wanted the 64GB model but climbed to £729 for the 128GB variant.

Meanwhile, the Pixel 2 XL started at £799 but rose to £899 for the 128GB option.

But now both flagships have plunged in price, meaning the Pixel 2 can be picked up for as little as £479 on Google’s store.

This will get you 64GB of internal memory, but if you want to double your storage it will cost you £579.

Pixel 2 XL now starts at £599 for the 64GB variant but is now £699 for the 128GB.

The huge discounts will surely be incredibly tempting for Android fans.

Although the Pixel 3 brings a number of substantial improvements, Google has already revealed a number of its features will be arrive on Pixel 2.

Camera tools such as Adjustable bokeh blur, Night Sight and Playground will all arrive on the Pixel 2 and should vastly improve the device’s snapping capabilities.

And now Google has confirmed the Pixel 2 will be updated to receive a new “Now Playing History” mode that is currently available on the Pixel 3.

Now Playing is a feature present on both devices that automatically detects background music and displays the artist and track on the always-on display.

Now Playing History simply keeps a log of all the tunes that have been detected by either the Google Pixel 2 or Pixel 3.

A spokesperson from Google told Android Police the tool “is planned to be added to the Pixel 2”.

However, a precise roll-out for the function has not been officially confirmed by the Mountain View firm.

Moreover, the camera application from the Pixel 3, that introduced subtle user interface changes, is also now available on the Pixel 2.

The Google Camera app has been updated with the new look, allowing users to swipe left or right to switch shooting modes.

It is worth neither the Pixel 3’s Top Shot mode or the forthcoming Night Sight function are present in the Google Camera update.

Night Sight is expected to arrive on Pixel devices next month.
