EE issues: Customers suffer text messaging problems after network outage

UPDATE ONE: As of 12.56pm EE has declared the problems facing the network have now been resolved.

The company said: “For a few minutes this afternoon a small number of customers encountered an issue when trying to send text messages.

“This is now resolved. If you’re still unable to send texts, please restart your phone and try sending your text again.”

ORIGINAL STORY: EE customers have taken to Twitter to express their concern for the outage.

One said: “EE website down. Text messages not sending or being received.”

Another said: “Well it look like EE network is down!”

A third wrote: “Why is my phone suddenly not sending text messages?

“I’m a self-employed music teacher; I communicate with pupils’ parents by text.

“Is the network down or something?

“I have full reception and can make calls, but no text messages, which is useless.”

In response to customer complaints the network has told customers to “try restarting” their devices as a possible remedy.

The network’s Twitter account responding to a customer said: “Hi, Channell. Thanks for letting us know about this, can you try restarting your phone and let me know if that helps.”

Independent outage monitor Down Detector registered over 550 reports at one time from customers insisting the network was not working as it should.

EE has acknowledged the issue with its SMS services on its network status checker page.

It insisted it is working to fix the problem “as soon as possible”.

The network said: “Some customers are experiencing problems when trying to send SMS today.

“We are aware of this, and are working to resolve this as soon as possible.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

The problems with EE appear to be isolated to its SMS services only.

This is because many customers have emphasised they are still able to make calls and make use of their mobile data as normal.
