Canada earthquake: Is there a tsunami alert in Canada after three 6 magnitude tremors?

The earthquakes hit Canadian province British Columbia in less than an hour, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The powerful quakes were said to be between 6.5 and 6.8 magnitude.

However, no casualties or any damage was reported.

At 10.39pm local time, the first 6.6 magnitude earthquake hit at a depth of 33 km.

This occurred 190 km southwest of Port Hardy, a town in the northeast of Vancouver Island.

A short while later, a 6.8 magnitude quake struck and was quickly followed by a 6.5 magnitude one.

Smaller quakes were also felt, along with aftershocks, according to geophysicist Amy Vaughan.

Is there a tsunami alert on Canada coast after three 6 magnitude tremors hit?

The US National Tsunami Warning Center said a tsunami is “not expected.”

British Columbia is located in the North American part of the Pacific Ring of Fire.

As a result, this area is at risk from being hit by earthquakes.

The horseshoe-shaped Ring of Fire, which is 25,000 miles-long, is known for its chain of volcanoes.

The Ring is a huge are in the basin of the Pacific Ocean and is said to be the location for 90 per cent of the world’s earthquakes.

Some of the volcanoes which have erupted along the Ring of Fire this year include Shinmoedake volcano in Japan, Fuego volcano in Guatemala, Cleveland volcano in the Aleutian Isles, Mount Mayon in the Philippines and most recently, the Mount Agung volcano in Bali.

Kilauea volcano in Hawaii has also been wreaking havoc for two months, as thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes as lava blanketed the surrounding areas.

However, this particular volcano is not generally considered to be a part of the Ring.
