eBay: Rare Beatrix Potter coin selling for £500 on eBay – could YOU have this 50p coin?

eBay is full of rare and collectable items – many of them in the form of rare coins.

One “rare” coin that has been listed on eBay is a Beatrix Potter 50p.

The coin was listed this afternoon by eBay user th_reere_iqrse1r4f, who is based in Leicester.

Hoping to cash in, the coin was listed for a whopping £500.

The listing’s title read: “150th BEATRIX POTTER ANNIV 50P COIN 2016 X 1 – RARE BEATRIX POTTER COLLECTION (sic).”

A few more details were given away in the item’s description, reading: “Rare circulated 50 pence coin.

“This item will also be sent by special delivery.”

The coin was listed this afternoon for a seven-day auction, with the seller starting the bidding at £500.

However, there is also the option for potential buyers to make an offer lower than the asking price.

Increasing the final price even more, the seller offered postage for a whopping £50 – 100 times the coin’s face value alone.

The coin was minted to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Beatrix Potter, in 1866.

It is part of a collection of coins made to commemorate the author, with a series minted in 2016 and 2017.

This particular coin was minted in 2016 and designed by Emma Noble.

It features an engraving of the author’s name and her profile at the top, along with the years of her life.

Other coins in the Beatrix Potter series include Mrs Tiggy Winkle, Jemima Puddleduck and Benjamin Bunny.

Despite the coin’s high listing and postage price, it is actually only worth £2, reports Coin News.

This could be down to its high mintage, which was 6,900,000.

Another Beatrix Potter coin was listed on eBay this morning for a similar price.

Commemorating her character Tom Kitten, the coin is listed for £499.

Listed for a matter of hours, the coin is already gaining attention from buyers, listed as a “hot item” with three views per hour.
