Bayern Munich fuel Arsene Wenger rumours – is Arsenal legend set for managerial return?

Current Bayern manager Niko Kovac is under immense pressure despite only taking over in the summer.

Draws against Augsburg and Ajax have been compounded by defeats to Hertha Berlin and Borussia Monchengladbach.

It’s left Bayern in sixth spot in Bundesliga, four points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund after just seven games.

And now the current champions have arranged a press conference for 11am UK time.

Bild report that president Uli Hoeness, chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic are all set to attend.

The last time that happened Bayern Munich announced Jupp Heynckes’ return as manager.

Arsene Wenger stepped down as Arsenal boss in the summer after 22 years in charge of the Premier League club.

He has been out of work since though he played down rumours linking him with the Bayern job earlier this week.

On whether the role interests him, Wenger told Bild: “That’s not a topic for me.

“Uli Hoeness and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge trusted Niko Kovac and they have to hold on to him.

“It’s important that Hoeness and Rummenigge organise the transition,” Wenger told Bild earlier this week.

“I think the power should stay within ex players. People like Philipp Lahm and Oliver Kahn, it’s important that they take over.

“Football lives within you. You don’t learn that at university.”

Wenger departed Arsenal after leading the side to three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups.

He was replaced at the Emirates by Spaniard Unai Emery.
