Pixel 3 v Pixel 3 XL – Latest discovery shows unexpected difference between Google phones

Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL were announced by the American tech firm at its hardware showcase on October 9.

Both Android devices are packed with a Snapdragon 845 processor, 4GB of RAM and have either 64GB or 128GB of storage.

Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL also have the same 12.2-megapixel rear-facing camera that is capable of taking gorgeous shots.

And the pair feature twin front-facing cameras that offer a regular and wide-angle field of view.

The latter was touted by Google as a way to fit more people into selfies.

The biggest difference between the two Android phones is in size.

Pixel 3 has a 5.5-inch P-OLED display at a 1080p resolution while the Pixel 3 XL has a 6.3-inch P-OLED panel at a 1440p resolution.

And the latter also benefits from a bigger battery thanks to its larger footprint.

Pixel 3 XL comes with a 3430mAh pack while the standard Pixel 3 has a 2915mAh battery.

However, it appears there is also another big difference between these two devices.

iFixit, an outlet renowned for taking smartphones apart and analysing their internals, recently discovered the Pixel 3 XL employs a Samsung panel.

Such a move marked a huge change from the Pixel 2 XL that used a display from LG.

But now the publication has conducted a similar analysis on the smaller Pixel 3.

iFixit posted images of the flagship’s screen with an LG label on it, showing that Google opted for different screen manufacturers for its smaller and larger hardware.

During its keynote discussing its new smartphones and on its store website, Google noted both the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 Xl have a 100,000:1 super contrast ratio and 16.77 million colours.

However, it is currently unknown why the Mountain View company chose an LG screen for the Pixel 3 and a Samsung panel for the Pixel 3 XL.

Last year the smaller Pixel 2 used a Samsung display while the bigger Pixel 2 XL employed LG technology.

Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL will release on November 1 but are currently available to pre-order.
