Fortnite tournaments: What are the new Fortnite in-game tournaments? How do you join?

Fortnite in-game tournaments promise a brand new challenge for seasoned and new Fornite players alike.

These fun and free contests offer players a chance to compete for “prizes and glory”.

This tournament feature can be found by exploring the brand new events tab in Battle Royale.

Each tournament will be run at scheduled dates and times, listed below.

These scheduled sessions start as a completely clean slate, meaning users will restart with the same score before battling for hours at a time in a bid to win as many points as possible.

Players earn points by achieving high placements and eliminating opponents.

Epic Games said: “Tournaments will feature a target score to strive towards – reaching this score will award you with a shiny pin celebrating your accomplishment.

“In the future, earning a pin may advance you to the next round of a tournament or qualify you to win prizes.”

How do you join Fortnite’s in-game tournaments?

Epic Games is allowing payers across different platforms to be pitted against each other.

This means that you could find yourself battling against mouse-and-keyboard users as well as touchscreen gamers while you play with a PS4 gamepad.

This has led some to complain that touchscreen vs mouse-and-keyboard offers an unfair advantage to PC players.

@AlanRorke18 tweeted: “I play cross platform and can safely say I can hold my own against the supposedly superior PC.

“Yes your aim maybe better – due to point and fire & editing but the console players don’t get any say in Fortnite due to pc being so much wider used in pro tournaments.”

You will have to opt-in for cross-platform play if you want to compete in these tournaments.

Epic Games said: “We’ve been observing the performance of controller players in our Summer Skirmish, PAX West, and Fall Skirmish tournaments while playing against mouse and keyboard players at the highest levels of competition.

“Competitors such as NickMercs, Ayden, KamoLRF, and AmarCoD have shown that controller players can be successful while competing against some of the best PC players in the world.”
