Bill Gates net worth: Microsoft founder worth staggering amount after death of Paul Allen

Bill Gates, 62, is a US business magnate, philanthropist, investor and the main founder of computer giant Microsoft Corporation.

Bill is reported to be the second-richest person in the world, according to Forbes magazine.

The business’ co-founder, Paul Allen, tragically passed away yesterday after a long battle with cancer.

How much is Bill Gates worth today?

According to Forbes, Bill has a staggering net worth of $95.7 billion (£72 billion).

Most of his money comes from his career at Microsoft, a company he founded and held the positions of chairman, CEO and chief software architect.

Bill launched Microsoft with his co-founder Paul in 1975, which became the world’s largest PC software company.

From 1995 to 2017 he held the Forbes title of the richest person in the world.

He was only surpassed in October 2017 by Jeff Bezos, the founder and CEO of Amazon.

After building and eventually retiring from Microsoft, Bill pursued a number of different philanthropic projects.

The businessman has donated staggering amounts to charity, setting up the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation with his wife.

In 2009 he started up The Giving Pledge, with fellow billionaire Warren Buffet, whereby they and other billionaires pledge to give away at least half of their wealth to charity.

The project works to save lives and improve global help, working towards eliminating polio.

The 62-year-old has also invested in a variety of stocks and assets over the years, increasing his wealth, launching the $1 billion investment fund, Breakthrough Energy.

Charity aside, Bill has still spent his money on a lavish few personal items.

It is reported that the Microsoft founder owns a $40 million (£30 million) private jet, which can seat up to 19 people.

He also owns a 66,000 square feet Washington estate now worth £125 million (£95 million), which cost $63 million and took seven years to build.

In true tech magnate style, his home has roughly $80,000 (£60,000) worth of computer screens fitted, displaying different paintings and photographs.

The billionaire also boasts an impressive luxury car collection and a portfolio of other properties.

While little have a net worth anywhere near close to Bill’s, many celebrities have a sizeable bank balance – including comedian Peter Kay.
