New Kindle Paperwhite release – UK price, features as Amazon reveals waterproof e-reader

is having another busy month.

The online retail giant has just announced the release of a range of new Alexa-powered devices including a refreshed Echo Dot, Echo Show and Echo Sub which boosts the sound of these popular smart speakers.

Now there’s another new product on the horizon and it’s good news for fans of Amazon’s e-readers.

The Kindle celebrated its 10th birthday last November and, after a decade on sale, this product continues to be a huge success story for the company.

And with customers still enjoying this digital book there’s now a totally new Paperwhite which brings more memory to store your books and the ability to read in the bath without fear of breaking the device.

Amazon is also boasting that its latest Kindle is now the thinnest and lightest Paperwhite yet, measuring 8.18mm thick and weighing 182g- that’s less than half the weight of many paperbacks.

There’s also a much-improved 6-inch high-resolution 300ppi screen which now includes five LEDs and an adjustable front light for a better reading experience during the day and night.

This display is also now more durable and should cope with being thrown in your bag without getting covered in scratches.

Speaking of durability, as we mentioned earlier the Paperwhite now follows the more expensive Kindle Oasis with a water-resistant design.

This allows it to withstand getting splashed at the beach or dropped in the bath, or pool.

It’s IPX8 rated to protect against immersion in up to two metres of fresh water for up to 60 minutes.

Other features include the ability to easily personalise your reading experience with a simple tap changing the settings, font and type size to how you like it.

The new home experience makes it easier to find your next read based on your reading history and with Paperwhite featuring Bluetooth connectivity you can link it straight to a speaker and listen to all your Audible books.

“Customers love the Kindle Paperwhite, and we’re excited to bring premium features—like a thinner and lighter flush-front design, additional storage, waterproofing, and Audible—to our most popular Kindle,” said Eric Saarnio, Head of Amazon Devices, Europe.

“With the all-new Kindle Paperwhite, it’s never been easier to get lost in the author’s story no matter where you go.”

The all-new Kindle Paperwhite prices start from £119.99 for the 8 GB model and £149.99 for the 32 GB model.

The 32 GB with free cellular connectivity is £219.99.

All are available today for pre-order.

The all-new Kindle Paperwhite will also be available in stores and online at Argos, Dixons, John Lewis & Partners, littlewoods.com, Tesco and very.co.uk.

Amazon will also be releasing a range of cases of the Paperewhite with prices starting from £24.99.
