While walking to the presidential helicopter, Trump gave a quick few words to reporters waiting for him and pulled away from Melania, leaving her in the rain.
The change in direction visibly caught the First Lady by surprise as she watched her husband walk towards the cameras.
After speaking briefly with the reporters, the President began walking to the helicopter with his wife at his side.
However, Trump drew criticism as he was the only one being protected by the rain.
Melania could be seen walking beside him but without the covering of the umbrella.
She was initially holding the President’s hand.
Twitter users were quick to pounce at the moment and criticise Trump for his actions.
One user said: “Trump standing with the massive umbrella over him while his wife gets rained on just says so much.”
Another said: “Trump being unchivalrous and hogging the umbrella, per usual.”
Trump eventually switched hand on the umbrella and allowed his wife most cover.
They are on their way to Florida on their first tour of the aftermath Hurricane Michael.
The category 4 storm hit the Florida Panhandle last week, causing devastation to the area.
In Bay County, Florida, at least 12 people have been confirmed dead with over 30 across four states.
It is believed that around 300 people were refusing to evacuate Mexico Beach, one of the first please to be struck by the storm.
Currently, aid groups are trying to help rescue the remaining people that decided to stay and provide food, water and shelter for them.
