Jadon Sancho: Jamie Redknapp reveals disappointment over Spain vs England decision

Sancho made his senior England debut last Friday in the 0-0 draw against Croatia.

The 18-year-old winger came on as a second-half substitute and impressed with his pace and one-on-one ability.

However, the Borussia Dortmund ace was not rewarded with a start against Luis Enrique’s resurgent Spain side.

England boss Gareth Southgate named the youngest Three Lions starting XI in a competitive match since 1959.

Redknapp is pleased to see youngsters being given their chance but wants to see Sancho given another opportunity.

“I think you have to look at it as a positive,” Redknapp said on Sky Sports.

“The fact that we’ve got such a young goalkeeper will make the average age go down as well because he is.

“We don’t normally have goalkeepers at that age playing at this quality for England.

“Also you’ve got Sancho and (Mason) Mount, players like that.

“I would have loved to have seen Sancho play today, I must admit.

“After the cameo role if you like against Croatia, I feel he has real quality.

“I feel he is the sort of guy who can light this game up.

“Hopefully we see him for maybe 30-35 minutes just to give him an opportunity to showcase his skills.”

Sancho has made nine assists already this season for Borussia Dortmund, the most out of anyone in Europe’s top-five leagues.

He has made 22 appearances in total for the German side, scoring two goals.
