OnePlus 6T release – Four things every OnePlus fan needs to know

There’s just a few weeks until the OnePlus 6T is revealed to the world and it could be one of the most exciting smartphones of the year.

OnePlus has shaken the market in recent years with the Chinese company producing devices with flagship specs but at a much lower price than their rivals.

In fact, the current OnePlus 6 costs just £469 which is half the price of a Galaxy S9 or, soon to be released, Pixel 3.

Now there’s a new device on the horizon and it could bring even more features to this popular brand.

So, with the OnePlus 6T arriving soon, here’s four things you need to know about this device.

WHEN WILL IT LAUNCH?

OnePlus announced last week that their new at an event in New York.

The big unveiling takes place on October 30 with things kicking off at 10am local time – that’s 3pm BST.

In a statement the Chinese firm said: “Following its most successful year ever with the recent launch of the highly acclaimed OnePlus 6, OnePlus invites the world to “Unlock The Speed” at the OnePlus 6T global launch event in New York City

“Together, OnePlus will celebrate the announcement of the OnePlus 6T by hosting the biggest ever Community event in the company’s history.”

WHEN WILL YOU BE ABLE TO BUY ONE?

October 30 might be the date fans will get their first look at the OnePlus 6T but there won’t be long to wait to actually get one in your hands.

In fact, just one week after the New York global “Unlock Your Speed” launch event, the OnePlus 6T will go on-sale in Europe at 10am GMT on Tuesday November 6.

THERE’S SOMETHING BIG COMING

The OnePlus 6T is expected to include some radical upgrades over the current OnePlus 6 with the Chinese firm already revealing its flagship will feature an embedded fingerprint scanner under the screen.

This will be one of the first phones to include this technology and time will tell if OnePlus has managed to crack this move to bring this sensor back to its rightful place

One other expected change is a smaller notch at the top of the screen which will look more like a teardrop rather than the large black bar on the OnePlus 6.

THERE’S SOMETHING BIG MISSING

One thing that might not please fans is the news that the 6T won’t have a headphone port with OnePlus confirming the end of this popular socket on its phones.

Carl Pei, one of OnePlus’ co-founders, recently revealed the newest hardware from the Chinese firm will not arrive with a headphone jack.

Such a move will surely disappoint many of the OnePlus faithful, but Pei emphasised the move was made to allow for “new technologies” inside the product.

He also insisted the device would benefit from better battery life as a result.

Pei told TechRadar: “By removing the jack we’ve freed up more space, allowing us to put more new technology into the product.

“One of the big things is something our users have asked us for, improved battery life.

“We’re adding an adapter to the box, allowing you to use your 3.5mm headphones normally.”
