Antonio Conte to Man Utd: Chelsea pay-off revealed amid Jose Mourinho replacement claims

Conte is out of work since being sacked by Chelsea in July after his relationship with the board and players broke down.

In his contract, Conte is understood to have a clause that guarantees him compensation of around £9m but talks over that fee are yet to result in an agreement.

Nevertheless, Conte has been linked with the Manchester United job after a troubling few weeks for Jose Mourinho.

It was claimed Mourinho would be sacked by United regardless of their result against Newcastle on Saturday.

And after United found themselves 2-0 down, it seemed Mourinho was on the brink.

But a second-half fightback inspired by Juan Mata resulted in a 3-2 win and a reprieve for Mourinho.

According to the Telegraph, Conte would lose out on the compensation owed to him by Chelsea if he took over at Old Trafford or any other English club.

The report says the price should Conte take a job in England before the New Year would be £5m.

If Conte became manager of a club overseas, he would still be able to receive a pay-off from Chelsea.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are mentioned as possible destinations with Julen Lopetegui and Niko Kovac under pressure at those respective clubs.

But Arsenal manager Unai Emery has backed Lopetegui to overcome his difficult spell.

Emery said: “Real Madrid must find balance without [Cristiano Ronaldo] and they need time to adapt.

“However, I think Julen will find it.

“We cannot answer for Julen, but when it happens to me, I try to be patient, but it is difficult to ask for patience in football.

“I’m sure the goals will come for Lopetegui.”
