Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp has ‘concern’ over one of his new signings

That is according to Sky Sports pundit and former Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy.

Fabinho joined the Reds from Monaco at the end of May for a fee of around £43.7million.

The Brazil international impressed many during his three years in France and was much sought after.

However, eight games into the Premier League campaign, Fabinho is yet to be given his top-flight debut.

The 24-year-old has only three appearances to his name, two coming as second-half substitutes in the Champions League games against Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli.

He did start the Carabao Cup clash against Chelsea last month but was taken off before the end as Liverpool lost 2-1.

Following Liverpool’s 0-0 draw with Manchester City on Sunday, Bellamy claimed the Reds needed to sign a new creative, defensive midfielder.

“They’re solid enough, Liverpool are solid enough, especially with (Virgil) Van Dijk going in there,” he said.

“I’m not sure they need someone higher.

“I think they need a defensive midfielder who has got creativity as well because he’s going to get a lot of the ball.”

Bellamy’s co-pundit and former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher then interrupted.

He claimed Fabinho was the type of player Bellamy was describing.

“That’s why Fabinho’s been bought in, that was £40m,” Carragher said.

However, Bellamy said Jurgen Klopp must be worried Fabinho is not quite to the level he requires.

“Yeah, obviously there is a little bit of a concern because he hasn’t been playing,” he said of Fabinho.

Liverpool have fared well without Fabinho in the league, as they are unbeaten and level on points with City and Chelsea at the top.
