Nintendo Switch games update: Kingdom Hearts 3 ’coming’, Final Fantasy 7 Remake next?

games list could be getting a big boost soon with rumours Kingdom Hearts 3 is coming to the hit hybrid console.

YouTuber DreamcastGuy said a source has told him Square Enix are “heavily considering” bringing Kingdom Hearts 3 to the Nintendo Switch.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is pencilled in for a release date on the PS4 and Xbox One in January so it’s unlikely a Switch version will be launching alongside then.

If Square Enix do decide to bring Kingdom Hearts 3 to the Switch it’s likely to be like with Dragon Quest XI – at a later date.

But the news does raise some interesting possibilities, namely whether Square Enix would also consider a Switch version of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Last year Express.co.uk reported on comments from Hajime Tabata, director of Final Fantasy 15.

He said that tests had been carried out to see how the Unreal Engine 4 performed on the Switch.

This is the engine that powers both Kingdom Hearts 3 and the Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

And Tabata-san said that during tests Nintendo’s hybrid console handled the engine well.

If Square Enix believes the Switch could handle a Kingdom Hearts 3 port then maybe they’d feel the same about the Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Square Enix has been putting plenty of support behind the Nintendo Switch.

And with how popular the console has been in Japan ports of Kingdom Hearts 3 and the Final Fantasy 7 Remake would surely sell like hot cakes.

While from a business point of view it seems to make perfect sense, it remains to be seen whether it can be pulled off technically.

The latest official word on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake came courtesy of director Tetsuya Nomura.

Nomura-san is also heading up to the development of Kingdom Hearts 3 and he spoke out after the FF7 Remake was a no-show at E3 2018.

The last time fans have been treated to a new trailer of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake was back at the end of 2015 during PSX.

But Nomura-san reassured fans that work is progressing on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

He said: “So right now, I’ve been putting 100% into Kingdom Hearts and 100% into Final Fantasy 7 and 100% into Kingdom Hearts and going back and forth”.

Speaking about the Final Fantasy 7 Remake specifically he added: “It’s not just in the early concept stages.

“We are actually in development.”
