Chelsea news: Cesc Fabregas makes passionate revelation about Maurizio Sarri

The 31-year-old midfielder admitted that if he ever becomes a coach he would try to do it the Sarri way – and wishes that the Italian had arrived to work with him earlier in his career.

Fabregas made only his second start of the season under Sarri in the narrow 1-0 Europa League win over Mol Vidi on Thursday night and wants more games.

“Touching the ball 100 times, all the play going through me or Jorginho is a very important way of playing for the manager,” said Fabregas. “I’m learning it, I’m very passionate about it, it’s very interesting.

“The way he sees football is something that maybe in the future if I become a coach I would do something very similar to what he does. It’s what I like and how I see football.

“It’s really interesting how he works and I’m looking forward to working for a long time with him.

“I wish he had come a bit earlier to be honest. It’s a little bit late now in my career. But definitely I’m very happy with him.

“I feel sensations under Sarri that I never thought I would feel again.”

Fabregas, whose contract runs out at Chelsea next summer and who is expected to be a January target for both Inter and AC Milan, would sign a new deal if Chelsea offered him one but they have yet to do so.

He has seen his position in the Chelsea midfield taken by new singing Jorginho, who worked with Sarri at Napoli and has become the lynchpin of the Italian’s team.

But, Fabregas, whose start to the season was hampered by a knee injury, said: “I felt I could have helped the team in the West Ham and Liverpool games in different type of things.

“But the manager tried another option and I respect that. It is difficult to be sitting there and not helping the team when you know you could add something.

“This is part of the game. It’s still early for me because of the injury. For me this is pre-season, I’ve only been with the team for two weeks after seven or eight weeks out. But I feel really good.”

As for a new deal, the Spaniard, now likely to be back on the bench for the trip to Southampton tomorrow, said: “I would sign one. I’m very open about it. The club has not said anything.

“Right now I have eight months left, and at the moment I’m gone. But I’d love to stay. I’ve been very happy for the last four and a half years, we’ve won many things.

“I have a good understanding with the fans and players. I feel I still have a lot of football left in me but it is up to the club.”

The major bonus for Chelsea though from a turgid tie against the Hungarians on Thursday was Alvaro Morata’s return to goalscoring form – his first in seven games and only his fifth in 2018.

“That goal was important for Alvaro,” said Fabregas. “You could feel he was nervous. He was stressing out a bit so the goal will do him a lot of good.

“This happens to all strikers. They want to score goals. That’s their nature. I have a good relationship with Alvaro and I know he suffers as he cares a lot. But we have always believed in him.

“It’s up to him to keep trying and behaving in the way he does. His attitude is spot on and he always tries his best. Hopefully this is the first of many.”
