LG V40 ThinQ – UK release, price and full triple camera specs revealed

LG V40 ThinQ was heavily rumoured ahead of its official debut and the South Korean tech firm had previously teased the device’s design.

But now LG has quietly lifted the lid on its newest flagship.

LG V40 ThinQ flaunts a giant 6.4-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1440×3120 and a density of 537 pixels-per-inch.

The display features a notch at the top and extremely minimal bezels across the top, bottom and sides.

The body of the device is a melding of two glass panels with an aluminium frame.

A Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip is housed inside the hardware, meaning the LG V40 should blitz through Google’s Android operating system.

Unfortunately Android 9 Pie does not make an appearance on the V40, instead the device comes pre-installed with Android 8.1 Oreo.

The phone’s quick processor is supported by 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

And up to 512GB of storage can be added through the use of a microSD card.

A 3,300mAh battery is packed inside the flagship and should deliver all-day life.

The phone does not feature a fingerprint sensor under its display, meaning LG have once again opted to place the scanner on the hardware’s rear.

But it’s the phone’s triple-camera setup that is by far the standout feature of the new device.

The LG V40 ThinQ comes with a 12-megapixel main sensor, a 16-megapixel wide-angle lens and a 12-megapixel telephoto system.

Users can switch between the three sensors instantaneously using the phone’s camera software.

LG has also boasted about a unique feature on the V40 that will let users take photos with all three sensors at the same time.

The Android device will then stitch together all three images and produce a short video clip.

The South Korean tech firm explained: “The Triple Shot feature stitches together the images captured with each of the three lenses into a short video file for easy sharing.

“The pixel size of the main rear camera sensor has been improved by about 40 percent compared to the LG V30.

“While the image sensor is more than 18 percent larger than in the LG V30.”

The LG V40 ThinQ also packs an audio punch thanks to its implementation of a headphone jack and the return of the Boombox Speaker that first debuted on the LG G7 ThinQ.

We loved the technology when we reviewed the G7 and praised it for being the “first time we have ever felt audio pulsating through the entire body of a smartphone”.

LG has insisted the launch dates and pricing of the V40 “will be announced locally at the time of availability”.

In a release detailing the product, the new flagship was shown in grey, black, blue and red colours.
