Trump responds to Kavanaugh’s testimony to Senate Committee in Twitter post FURY

Judge Kavanaugh has been nominated by Trump to fill the vacancy in the Supreme Court, a position which is held for life.

However, he has since been accused of sexual assault by three women, and both he and one of his accusers Christine Blasey Ford have given evidence in front of the Senate Justice Committee.

After Mr Kavanaugh’s testimony, Trump said: “Judge Kavanaugh showed America exactly why I nominated him.

“His testimony was powerful, honest, and riveting.

“Democrats’ search and destroy strategy is disgraceful and this process has been a total sham and effort to delay, obstruct, and resist. The Senate must vote!”

In his testimony, Brett Kavanaugh called the allegations “crazy stuff” and suggested the investigation is a conspiracy against him “on behalf of the Clintons”.

He then broke down into tears half way through his testimony.

He said he had “no ill-will” towards Dr Ford, who gave an emotional account of her assault and claims she is “100 percent” sure Mr Kavanaugh was her attacker.

Mr Kavanaugh refused to answer whether he would welcome an FBI investigation into the accusations.

President Trump has remained loyal to the man he nominated to be appointed to the Supreme Court since the allegations emerged.

However, he did leave some wiggle room yesterday when he said that if he was convinced that the accusations were true, he would withdraw his support for the judge.

He said “If I thought was guilty of something like this, sure” when asked at a press conference yesterday if there were any circumstances in which he would name a new nominee.

Dr Ford, a psychology professor at Palo Alto University in California, said that she came forward to speak to the Committee to carry out a “civic duty”.

She claims a drunken Mr Kavanaugh attacked her when he was 17 years old and she was 15.

She said: “Brett groped me and tried to take off my clothes.

“He had a hard time because he was very inebriated and because I was wearing a one-piece bathing suit under my clothing.

“I believed he was going to rape me. I tried to yell for help.”
