Fortnite DOWN: Season 6 update news latest from Epic Games

Fortnite Season 6 begins tomorrow, September 27, and will require a new update on all platforms.

Epic Games has confirmed that scheduled maintenance is happening in the morning, with update 6.0 going live afterwards.

This new patch includes all the new content for Fortnite Season 6, but it will come at the cost of servers being offline for several hours.

The good news is that we know when all of this stuff is going to happen.

FORTNITE SEASON 6 UPDATE

Fortnite’s season 6 update will be available to download on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch and Mobile, tomorrow.

It’s unknown just how big it could be but based on how things have been done in the past; we can probably expect a meaty download.

Sizes may differ by platform, but all patches will include the new season 6 battle pass gear.

FORTNITE DOWN – HOW LONG WILL SERVERS BE OFFLINE?

According to Epic Games, Fortnite servers will be down tomorrow.

The scheduled downtime will begin at 9am in the UK and will mean that no games will be available to join.

This is expected to last for several hours, although Epic Games haven’t provided a precise roadmap.

Fans will have to wait and see as this will be a very large update that adds a lot of extra content to the game.

“Patch v6.00 is dropping in tomorrow, September 27! Downtime begins at 4 AM ET (0800 GMT),” the message from Epic Games reads.

“Reminder, progressive Outfits from Season 5 can be levelled up in all future seasons once you’ve unlocked them in the Battle Pass!”

Patch Notes will be released afterwards and will contain all the major changes made to the game.

Fans should also be warned that servers usually start kicking players out around 20 minutes before scheduled maintenance is set to begin.

FORTNITE SERVER DISRUPTION

With the release of such a large update, there’s a chance of serious server disruption.

As in the past, Fortnite fans will be clambering to get back online to check out all the latest news.

The problem with this is that it could create a massive server surge, possibly knocking them offline.

The good news is that Epic Games is aware that something like this could happen and are probably prepared for the extra server load.

However, fans should still be prepared for some wobbly gameplay if they decide to jump in straight after download the new Fortnite update.

EARLY PATCH NOTES

With the full list of patch notes still to come, Epic Games has given fans a small taste of what to expect from the update 6.0.

We already know that PS4 crossplay will be a part of Fortnite Season 6, as will pets and new skins.

These were recently leaked and will likely come with their own unique surprises.

According to the Fortnite Trello board, Epic Games is working on eliminating server and client hitches on Xbox One and PC.

The developer is also coming up with a fix for a misleading in-game message when using two-factor authentication.

There’s also a problem with blocked crosshairs when wearing certain outfits.

The next major Fortnite update will also include big changes to the game’s sound effects.

You can see for yourself in the update 6.0 patch notes below:

  • More contrast between above/below steps.
  • We want this to be easier to determine on the fly, especially while other sounds are playing (gunfire, harvesting, etc).
  • More high-frequency audio content to improve your ability to pinpoint the location of steps and to prevent them from getting drowned out during intense combat.
