Batman solo movie: EXCITING update for Matt Reeves’ Dark Knight

The Batman solo movie recently saw a first draft of its script handed into the DC heads at Warner Bros.

And now one insider has revealed what they call a ‘lil’ update, which is very exciting nonetheless.

The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez tweeted: “LIL BATMAN UPDATE: The studio loves Matt Reeves’ first draft of his BATMAN script.

“He is currently doing revisions & the film is being eyed for a hopeful summer 2019 production start.”

He added: “Of note, the current DC regime is committed to getting this take on the Caped Crusader correct!”

Assuming this information can be trusted, a summer 2019 production start would suggest a couple of things.

In the next few months we’re likely to hear who the new Batman is replacing Affleck – since the script focuses on a young Dark Knight.

And secondly a 2020 release date now seems very likely, once taking into account enough time to include post-production.

Also the line about “getting this take…correct” could be interpreted as the studio not being so pleased with Ben Affleck’s turn in Batman v Superman and Justice League.

It’s no secret that Warner Bros’ DC Extended Universe hasn’t quite been the critical and financial replication of Disney’s MCU as the studio may have hoped.

There have been some expected like Wonder Woman, but now it looks like a full on reboot is on the way.

Not only is the franchise now called Worlds of DC, but we’re seeing new incarnations of major characters popping up.

Just two years ago Jared Leto played the Joker in Suicide Squad, but now Joaquin Phoenix is shooting as the Clown Prince of Crime in his own solo movie set in a different reality.

But what gets even more confusing is that Leto is still set to play the Joker in a movie with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn – another one of the more successful characters.

Perhaps Warner Bros are sticking with what works while rebooting what they think could be done better?
