Fortnite update 6.0: Early patch notes ahead of season 6 release

It looks like Epic Games will be skipping their usual patching schedule so that they can release Fortnite update 6.0 on Thursday, September 27.

As many fans will already know, this is the date when Fortnite Season 6 is set to launch on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch and Mobile.

It will come with a lot of new stuff, and will likely be a very large update for Battle Royale fans, and Save the World players.

In fact, we know that the new Fortnite update will be launching later this week, rather than Tuesday, because of information released about STW.

A new post on the Epic Games Reddit page confirms that a new event is being cooked up for STW during Season 6.

The post reveals new details for STW, plus news that the big update will be landing the same day as Season 6.

This is likely to avoid players being able to datamine all the new secret being worked on for the next season.

“In v6.0 (Thursday, 9/27) we will be introducing a mini event that we’re calling “Cram Session”,” a message from Epic Games explains.

“This event will not have any special llamas or tickets and will be focused on gathering resources to prepare for the events ahead.”

So not the most exciting early patch notes but still enough to give us a rough outline on how things are going later this week.

This announcement probably means we won’t see a new update launch tomorrow, September 25.

This is the usual date we see a new patch released, along with patch notes and possible server downtime.

This is all being saved for Thursday, so season 6 will likely start with downtime.

There’s no clear way of knowing how long servers will be offline for, although it would make sense that maintenance would last at least a few hours.

And as the new update will include fresh battle pass items and possible map changes, fans might be looking at a hefty download size.

Epic Games have also confirmed a few early patch notes for battle royale mode too.

This is all based around improving tactical audio cues, which are important to the core gameplay.

Epic Games say they want to improve this, so fans have to rely on audio information to survive.

Some of these changes will be coming in Fortnite update 6.0, with early patch notes available to read below:

Season 6 – v6.00

Footstep sounds

  • More contrast between above/below steps.
  • We want this to be easier to determine on the fly, especially while other sounds are playing (gunfire, harvesting, etc).
  • More high-frequency audio content to improve your ability to pinpoint the location of steps, and to prevent them from getting drowned out during intense combat.

Glider audio tells

  • Increased awareness when an enemy is gliding in your vicinity.
  • Doppler-based glider audio for incoming threats. This will create that “car passing by” effect when a player glides over top of you.
  • Improved spatialization of both skydiving and gliding players.
  • Ability to hear the open/close sounds of gliders from further away.

“With Fortnite’s mobility mechanics and dynamic building/destruction, we are presented with unique challenges for spatial audio,” a message from Epic Games adds.

“It’s something we’ll continue to iterate and improve upon, in addition to other avenues we are looking to explore for the future.

“For example, Sound Propagation, where sounds actually travel through the world as they do in real life, and HRTF filtering, where sounds around you are filtered to sound as if they’re passing through your body.”

More will be revealed later this week as we get closer to the launch of Fortnite Season 6.
