This weekend’s Pokemon Go Community Day went as planned but also featured some very unrelated surprises.

Toward the end of the three-hour event, players started to see a new Pokemon that wasn’t in the current Pokedex.

This new Pokemon started to swamp players in Europe during the Community Day but wasn’t actually available to catch.

It appears that instead of allowing Trainers to complete their catch, the new Pokemon would morph into a Ditto.

This caused a lot of confusion among players, who weren’t sure what to make of it, as you can see by this page on The Silph Road Reddit.

From what data miners have shared on the subject, this new Pokemon is sharing the same id as Kecleon but doesn’t appear to be related to it.

For those who missed the new Pokemon’s arrival, it looks like a silver Ditto with a cog nut for a head.

It doesn’t come with a name and it doesn’t have any other information to glean from it while battling it in the wild.

Some players have suggested that this might be a way to start hyping the next generation of Pokemon, while also providing an opening for Kecleon to be added to the game.

There are also reports that Kecleon appeared in the wild today too, although it was doing a similar thing to the new Pokemon, by switching into a Ditto when caught.

For what its worth, the inclusion of the mystery Pokemon doesn’t appear to be a mistake, although no official information has been provided.

Some data miners have also been able to link it to the new Gen 8 launch due to the Pocket Monster having the Pokedex number of 891 attached to it.

Another good theory doing the rounds is that Ditto is trying to turn into a new Pokemon that it has seen, but can’t complete the transition.

This would give fans a nice hint at what’s being worked on for Gen 8, without giving too much away.

It will also help to build hype for the next Community Day, where fans will no doubt be looking out for something similar to happen.

Could the new Pokemon be linked to the new Let's Go games?

This new Pokemon could be followed by other strange transformation if this latest theory proves true.

It certainly helped to spice up today’s Community Day, which featured Chikorita as the prized catch available.

If this is some kind of cross-promotion, it will certainly be connected to a new pokemon game, such as Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu.

Nintendo recently released more information on how both games will be available to link later this year.

This will include the Go Park complex, which where your Pokemon will arrive after you’ve synced your Pokémon GO game with Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! or Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!

There, you’ll be able to visit your former Go buddies, with a total of 20 GO Parks available.

Each will be capable of holding 50 Pokémon, a whopping 1,000 Pokémon that you can keep.

And if you want to explore the Kanto region with the Pokémon you’ve brought over from Pokémon GO, you’ll need to catch them again in the GO Park complex first.

Here’s more about linking your accounts from the Pokemon Company, who explained: “There’s no limit to the number of Pokémon Go accounts that can be tied to a single save file in Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! or Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!

“That means you’re not limited to connecting with just your own Pokémon GO account. You can get Pokémon from friends and family, too.

“Although Pokémon that you’ve brought from Pokémon GO into Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! or Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! can’t be sent back to Pokémon GO, transferring your Pokémon over will earn you handy rewards in Pokémon GO that will help you in that game.”

It’s not expected that the new Let’s Go will introduce over a 100 new Pokemon, but perhaps a handful might be added to spice things up.
