WWE news: Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman’s Hell in a Cell Match ending explained

Strowman agreed to cash in his Money in the Bank contract last Sunday at Hell in a Cell if Reigns would be willing to fight him inside ‘Satan’s Structure’.

According to Ringside News, the publisher and editor of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Dave Meltzer claims management didn’t want the 6ft 8in, 385lb superstar to lose clean.

That would make The Monster Among Men look significantly weaker and they were also unwilling to cut Reigns’ Universal Championship stint short.

Therefore, WWE decided to have UFC legend Brock Lesnar interfere in the main event and annihilate both competitors inside the cell – something which didn’t really please the crowd.

Meltzer said: “The fans live were really upset with that finish. But what were they going to do?

“The only other finish was beating Strowman. I guess this eliminates the [Money in the Bank] briefcase, it has to.

“Although I’m sure there will be a rematch, there will be a million rematches.”

Lesnar seemed to be UFC-bound ever since he lost the Universal Championship to Reigns at SummerSlam last month and looked to be set to challenge Daniel Cormier for the UFC Heavyweight Championship.

The Beast, however, has some unfinished business in WWE as he made a shock return at Hell in a Cell where he kicked the cell’s door off its hinges and then brutalised both the Universal Champion and Strowman.

That controversial ending led to Acting RAW General Manager Baron Corbin announcing that Reigns will defend RAW’s premier title in a Triple Threat Match against The Monster Among Men and Lesnar in a Triple Threat Match at WWE Crown Jewel.

The overseas Pay-Per-View show will take place on November 2 at the King Fahd International Stadium in Saudi Arabia.

In the meantime, Reigns and Strowman will be in action against each other in WWE’s next major event WWE Super Show Down next month.

The Universal Champion will team up with Shield team-mates Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose for the first time since their second reunion.

The Hounds of Justice will face The Monster Among Men and RAW Tag Team Champions Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler in a Six Man Tag Team Match.

WWE Super Show-Down will take place on October 6 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia.
