Pokemon Go Deoxys EX Raid news: Gen 3 taking over from Mewtwo as boss

The new EX Raid boss will be Deoxys, a Gen 3 Psychic with a lot of firepower.

The big Pokemon Go news was broken today, with a new notification rolling out confirming the facts.

This information is straight from Niantic, although it appears not every Trainer has received the update through their Pokemon Go app.

According to those who have received the push notification, it confirms the new EX Raid format, as well as the new boss.

“I’m on iOS and just got a notification that the Deoxys coming as EX-Raids! Any more info?” one user posted on the Silph Road Reddit page.

“It was a push notification and when trying to screenshot it, it disappeared, nonetheless there are several links posted, it is confirmed that such notification has been sent.”

It means that Deoxys will be taking over from Mewtwo, who is set to become a regular Raid boss encounter later this week.

“On September 20 at 1:00 P.M. (PDT), Mewtwo will come to Raid Battles for the first time ever!” the official Niantic message reads.

“Mewtwo has previously only been available to Trainers invited to EX Raids, but now all Trainers will be able to challenge the Legendary Psychic-type Pokémon until October 23 at 1:00 P.M. (PDT).

“So prepare yourself, and don’t miss your opportunity to encounter this powerful Pokémon before it disappears.”

For those that don’t know, an EX Raid is an elite pass that provides players with the chance of catching a powerful Pokemon at a set time, at a set Gym location.

Before you can join a raid, you’ll need a Raid Pass, with three types of passes available: Raid Passes, Premium Raid Passes, and EX Raid Passes.

The Premium Raid Pass can be earned by spinning the Photo Disc at a Gym. You can only hold one Raid Pass at a time, and you can only receive one per day. This pass grants access to Tier 1-5 Raid Battles.

If you have already used your Raid Pass, you can participate in another Raid Battle by purchasing a Premium Raid Pass from the Shop.

Unlike the Raid Pass, you can hold more than one Premium Raid Pass in your inventory at a time.

The most exclusive raids are EX Raid Battles, where you’ll have an opportunity to catch the most sought-after Pokemon.

Unlike other raids, you need to be invited to attend an EX Raid at a specific Gym at a specific time.

If you are selected to participate in an EX Raid, you will receive an invitation in advance so that you can coordinate and strategize for the chance at defeating the powerful EX Raid Boss.

Here are some tips from Niantic on how you can boost your chances of getting an EX Raid pass:

X Raid Pass:

  • Join more Raid Battles. The more Raid Battles you successfully complete, the greater your chances to receive an EX Raid Pass.
  • To increase your odds even more, try completing raids at a variety of different Gyms.
  • Earn more Gym Badges. Trainers with a high-level Gym Badge are more likely to be invited to EX Raid Battles taking place at that Gym.
