Captain Marvel vs Captain America: Who is more powerful? Who would win in a fight?

Captain Marvel is being touted as one of the strongest superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

A plethora of fan theories have already been written which put her at the centre of the plan to resurrect the fallen Avengers.

With a huge arsenal of superpowers at her disposal, and Marvel boss Kevin Feige confirming she will be the new face of the MCU, it seems indisputable: Captain Marvel is inimitable.

Though she is squarely set against the bad guys, some fans have started to wonder how she would fare against some of the strongest original Avengers.

Who is more powerful, Captain America or Captain Marvel?

The two share not only the moniker of Captain but also some similar powers.

While they seem perhaps to be equally matched, it is likely Captain Marvel could defeat Captain America.

This victory in favour of Captain Marvel stems from the very makeup of the characters themselves.

Their powers may be similar, but they are fundamentally very different.

Captain America is wholly human, augmented to be a super-human, whereas Captain Marvel is part human, part alien.

The distinction is not just wild speculation.

Feige told Vulture: “With Captain Marvel, she is as powerful a character as we’ve ever put in a movie.”

Her powers are off the charts, and when she’s introduced, she will be by far the strongest character we’ve ever had,” he added.

Captain Marvel and Captain America both share super strength and physical durability.

However, her alien DNA (which came from her Kree alien co-officer Captain Mar-Vell) give her the ability to fly, amongst much more.

Being part alien gives her these, and other, powers without the aid of a serum, suit, or trigger (as in the Hulk’s anger).

She can also fire photon blasts from her hands.

When fighting an enemy, her ability to absorb and redirect energy allows her to absorb a blast intended to hurt her, which in turn makes her stronger.

Captain America may have wealth of powers to hand, like super strength, agility, senses, reflexes, and healing powers.

But these still fall short of Captain Marvel’s trove, including a power hinted at in the trailer.

One of her abilities, which fans speculate will be integral to her defeating Thanos in Avengers 4, is the ability to enter a state called Binary.

As Binary, she is able to tap into the energy of a white hole (the opposite of a black hole) which would give her full control and manipulation of stellar energies.

She would, therefore also be able to control heat waves, the electromagnetic spectrum, and gravity.

Binary also allows her to reach light speed travel and the ability to survive in the vacuum of space without aid.

Luckily, it seems unlikely the two would ever go head to head in a match so fans need not fret about who would win or lose.
