Paris terror alert: Champs-Elysees SEALED OFF as bomb squad scrambled

The police cordoned off the avenue close to the Arc de Triomphe monument as the sniffer dogs and bomb disposal police investigated the vehicle, according to witnesses.

People were kept 50 feet from the scene while the area was being investigated on Sunday, September 16th at around midday

A robot was also used to help French police with their investigations.

The streets of Paris were closed today for a no-car day in the busy city.

The Champs Elysees is a major tourist hotspot and was the site of two attacks on French security forces last year.

In June 2017, a man drove a car carrying weapons into a police van as it drove down the boulevard.

In April 2017, a gunman shot dead a policeman on the Champs Elysees in an attack claimed by Islamic State.

The Champs Elysees runs between the Place de la Concorde and the Place Charles de Gaulle, where the Arc de Triomphe is located.

It is best known for its theatres, cafés,the annual Bastille Day military parade, and as the finish of the Tour de France cycle race.
