Pokemon Go news: New Shiny event surprise as Niantic reveal major app update

It’s been a busy week for Pokemon Go Trainers as Niantic decided to unleash the first part of the Ultra Bonuses.

A big Legendary shiny event is currently live and gives players a chance to grab some top Pocket Monsters.

It’s also been revealed that some new shiny Pokemon have also been launched by Niantic this week, something that wasn’t announced ahead of time.

It has been confirmed that variants of Geodude and Grimer are currently available to catch, probably as another ultra reward.

Niantic did reveal that Pokemon originally discovered in the Kanto region would be appearing more frequently all over the world and in Raid Battles until September 30.

And this appears to include two new shiny Pokemon to add to your collection.

For those that don’t know, Niantic is launching a wave of new rewards as a celebration of all the global challenges completed by players over the summer.

And Niantic kicked everything off this week with the release of Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres.

The bird trio will be available to battle at local gyms around the world and will be available to challenge until September 20.

Before the raid begins, a Raid Egg will appear on top of the Gym, and a countdown will display the time until the Egg hatches, and the battle begins.

Don’t worry if you miss a chance to join a Raid Battle as they happen frequently.

These new Raids shouldn’t be rare and will likely pop up very frequently when active in September.

The added bonus of being able to catch shiny versions of these legendary birds will be a draw for those who already have them in their collection.

The Raids will run for about a week and will allow fans to try and fill in any holes in their collections.

Fans can also look forward to the launch of new Mewtwo raids later this month, and something just as exciting for hardcore players.

It’s been revealed that Niantic is looking to beta test a new nomination process for PokeStops.

This could change a lot for Trainers around the world and will mean better accessibility for some players when it comes to items.

A special system will be tested in select regions, which will allow high-level players to submit nominations for new PokeStops.

It’s unclear how long the beta will take and where it will be coming to next.

“Coming soon, we’ll be rolling out the first beta test of the new PokéStop nomination system,” a message from Niantic explains.

“This will be the first time that Trainers will be able to submit locations in Pokémon GO. Submissions will be evaluated for future inclusion in the game.

“This feature will initially be limited to level 40 Trainers (child accounts excluded) in Brazil and South Korea.

“Trainers who meet these initial requirements will be able to nominate potential PokéStops by submitting photographs and descriptions of the locations.

“Submissions will be reviewed by experienced users in the Ingress Operation Portal Recon (OPR) project.

“You can find rules and guidelines on how to submit a PokéStop in our Help Center.

“Stay tuned for more news as this program expands to other countries, and please accept our thanks for working to make Pokémon GO an even better experience.”
