Lewis Hamilton: ‘I wouldn’t give him advice’ – Mercedes star in blunt message

McLaren announced earlier this month that Norris would be competing in their two-man line-up for the 2019 season.

He will come in as Stoffel Vandoorne’s replacement, with the Belgian driver struggling after two years in Formula One.

Hamilton is the sole representative for Great Britain in Formula One this season, after both Jolyon Palmer and Paul di Resta lost their seats last season.

The 33-year-old is Britain’s most successful driver, winning four world championships and he is currently on the verge of claiming a fifth.

But there will be another Briton in the sport next year in the form of 18-year-old Norris, who has been a part of the McLaren young driver programme since February 2017.

However, Hamilton will not be making any special plans to hand out advice to the teenager ahead of his F1 debut.

“I wouldn’t give him advice,” Hamilton said.

“Obviously if he asked for it, he could get it if he wanted.

“If I’m really honest, I don’t really look at nationalities.

“I don’t look down the order and think; ‘there’s another Brit’, or ‘there’s another German,’ or anything like that.

“I just… that’s not something that really appeals to me.

“England’s always producing good drivers. They have them; there’s quite a lot of them.

“It’s not like Formula One’s never going to have a British driver, so… yeah, wish him all the best.”
