WWE news: Edge addresses Smackdown return rumours ahead of Hell in a Cell

Smackdown will celebrate its 1,000th episode on October 16 at the Capital One Arena in Washington and WWE seem keen to pull out all the stops to honour that impressive milestone.

Numerous wrestling legends have been linked with a stunning return, and one of them is WWE Hall of Famer Edge.

The Rated-R Superstar, however, claims he is not aware of any future WWE televised appearances.

The 11-time world champion retweeted a fan’s tweet claiming that the tag team specialist will be on Smackdown 1000 and replied: “Huh, news to me.”

Undertaker will return for next month’s historic episode shortly after his final clash with Triple H at WWE Super Show-Down.

Some of the blue brand’s top stars will also be part of the show, such as WWE Champion AJ Styles, Daniel Bryan, US Champion Shinsuke Nakamaura, Samoa Joe, The Miz, Randy Orton, Jeff Hardy, Carmella, Asuka, Becky Lynch, Smackdown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair and Smackdown Tag Team Champions The New Day.

WWE legend and Hollywood celebrity Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has also been linked with a surprise appearance in the show that he basically named with one of his catchphrases.

Edge joined Vince McMahon’s promotion in 1996 and revolutionised the tag team division with his legendary partner Christian.

E&C had some unforgettably brutal matches against storied rivals like The Hardy Boyz and The Dudley Boyz.

The three teams pioneered the Tables, Ladders and Chairs Match with two remarkable bouts at WrestleMania 16 and 17.

The 14-time Tag Team Champion’s Singles career kicked off on Smackdown in 2003 when he had some stunning matches against the likes of Eddie Guerrero, Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar and many others.

Edge was then evolved into a main-event player in 2006 when he won his first ever WWE Championship at New Year’s Revolution.

He went on to win many more titles throughout the years but was forced to retire in 2011 just after WrestleMania 27 where he successfully defended the World Heavyweight Championship against Alberto Del Rio.

The ex-WWE Champion was diagnosed with cervical spinal stenosis and doctors refused to clear him to compete as he risked neck-down paralysis or even death.

Edge was forced to relinquish the World Heavyweight Championship and joined the Hall of Fame a year later.
