Real Madrid line up raid for £45m-rated Barcelona and Tottenham target Frenkie de Jong

The midfielder is one of Ajax’s hottest prospects and Europe’s elite are sniffing around.

Express Sport understands Tottenham and Barcelona are serious suitors for his signature.

But according to Spanish daily OK Diario, Real are also huge admirers.

And, in a massive blow to Barca and Spurs, it’s suggested De Jong is keen to strut his stuff at the Bernabeu.

Reports over the weekend claimed Ajax are determined to hang onto their prized asset as long as possible though.

They reportedly rebuffed a £45m offer from Spurs during the transfer window.

De Jong has made just 37 appearances for the Amsterdam-based outfit, scoring one goal.

Despite ever mounting transfer interest – and Ajax’s reluctance to sell – Barcelona are still desperate to snare him.

Catalan news outlet Mundo Deportivo say Ernesto Valverde wants a deal done this summer as he believes De Jong’s value will only increase.

De Jong explained last month that he was happy to stay at Ajax after they qualified for the Champions League group stage.

“Maybe someday I’ll join Barcelona, but not this season,” he said.

“I have already played a binding match for Ajax.

“I’m staying at Ajax.

“I think it will be a good year.”

Ajax will lock horns with AEK Athens, Bayern Munich and Benfica in Group E.

They could face Spurs or Barcelona if they all reach the knockout stages.

Real are already well stocked in midfield despite the departure of Mateo Kovacic.

The 24-year-old is on a season-long loan at Chelsea.

De Jong might be viewed as a replacement for Luka Modric who is now entering the twilight of his career.

Modric, 33, was linked with a move to Serie A in the summer.
