BREAKING: Dallas police officer who SHOT DEAD man after entering wrong apartment ARRESTED

Amber Guyger shot the man after returning from her shift on Thursday night.

The incident took place at the South Side Flats in Dallas on Thursday night.

She told authorities that she entered his apartment, which she thought was her own, and then shot the victim believing him to be an intruder.

The announcement was made by Texas Ranger Division which has state-wide jurisdiction over Texas.

The victim, Botham Jean, was a Harding University graduate who worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Dallas.

Following the shooting Mr Jean was rushed to hospital where he died.

Mr Jean’s mother, Allison, said in an emotional statement that the police officer: “Has to face whatever the law says.

“She took my life away, like my very own life.

Mr Jean is due to be buried on his native St. Lucia on Thursday.

His mother flew over to Dallas following the shooting.

Ms Guyger was a four-year police veteran.

She had moved into the flats, situated near the Dallas police station, around a month before the incident took place.

She was in uniform when the shooting occurred.

Dallas Police Chief Renee Hall passed the case over to the Texas Rangers, to ensure the investigation was impartial.

In a statement Mr Hall said: “We are continuing to pray for Mr Jean’s family and ask that the community remain patient as this investigation is conducted.”
