Meghan and ex husband Trevor Engelson’s ‘A-list -power couple’ body language analysed

Meghan Markle, who officially goes by Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has been a member of the Royal Family since May.

She married Prince Harry, the Queen’s grandson, in a lavish ceremony watched by millions.

However, Meghan was once living a very different life with a different man.

The former actress, who starred as the sexy love interest in a cable drama, was once married to a movie producer.

Meghan Markle, from LA, California, began dating Trevor Engelson, now 41, from Great Neck, New York, in 2004, when Meghan was 23-years-old and he was 28.

The couple were together for seven years before the actress married the Jewish producer in a ceremony in Jamaica on September 10, 2011 in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

However, the marriage was not to last and they separated 18 months later.

Body language expert Judi James analysed images of the couple exclusively for Express.co.uk.

She claims the pair “planned their posing to mirror the kind of A-list power couple body language that we’d see from some of the leading Hollywood couples.”

This is perhaps unsurprising, since the producer and actress were surrounded by the trappings of Hollywood during their relationship.

Judi said: “Trevor and Meghan are adopting body language that looks choreographed to create the ideal effect rather than being spontaneous and loving.”

The producer, who is known for working on Remember Me in 2010 with Twilight’s Robert Pattinson, fills the “co-star” role for his actress girlfriend.

“Trevor looks very much in co-star mode here with Meghan’s poses showing she is the leading lady and the one to the front in the spotlight,” Judi added.

“While Trevor stands rather woodenly with a stretched, fixed smile and one hand in his pocket to suggest nonchalance, Meghan converses with the cameras rather than him, throwing a very direct and meaningful glance and perfect smile while she stands to the front of the pose with her body facing the photographers.

“The couple might have placed their arms around one another’s waists but there is little if any form of tie-sign or connection between them here.”

She adds: “(Trevor) might have been happy to let Meghan step out to the front and do her own thing alone.”

In another picture the couple appear to stand closer together, but Meghan’s focus is on the cameras, Judi claims.

The expert said: “This is a much closer-looking pose in terms of attention and rapport, but it still shows Meghan holding the cameras with her eye contact and her smile and ‘posing off’ her husband rather than the pair paying one another active attention.

“Their torsos are facing here and Meghan has pressed her head up against her husband’s chin but although Trevor’s left arm seems to be part raised in a truncated gesture that could have been the offer of a cuddle or touch, Meghan’s free arm is held straight down at her side to create a better body pose.

“With her slightly raised shoulder and the way she smiles over this shoulder gesture suggests she is keen to show us her love for her husband here though.”

Why did Meghan Markle divorce Trevor Engelson

The divorce document cites the commonly used reason of “irreconcilable differences” for their split.

Meghan Markle and Trevor Engelson’s wedding was a sun-bathed affair, taking place in Jamaica.

Unlike her royal wedding day, Meghan relaxed by the pool wearing a bikini with her mother before she wed Trevor.

They pair said their vows on the beach and Meghan wore a simple strapless gown with a plunging neckline and sparkling silver dress.

Meghan Markle attended Hamilton at the theatre with Prince Harry recently.

Can you guess how much her stunning outfit for the special gala performance cost?

Who is Meghan Markle? Quick profile

Meghan Markle was born Rachel Meghan Markle, on August 4, 1981 to parents Doria Ragland and father Thomas Markle.

Her father was previously married to Roslyn Loveless and Meghan has two elder half sibling – sister Samantha Markle and brother Thomas Markle Junior.

Actress

Meghan’s first television appearance in the USA was in an episode of the medical drama General Hospital in 2002.

She later moved on to roles in CSI, Without a Trace and Castle along with bit parts in Hollywood films including Get Him to the Greek, Remember Me and Horrible Bosses.

Meghan was also a “briefcase girl” on Deal or No Deal – but her most famous role was as Rachel Zane in legal drama Suits, which launched in 2011.

She was written out in the finale of the seventh series when her character got married, which aired in April 2018 – just before she got married herself.

Charity and humanitarian work

Meghan Markle’s career in television has gone hand-in-hand with her support for causes close to her heart.

She wrote about the stigma around menstrual health in an article for Time magazine and was a Global Ambassador for World Vision Canada – with whom she travelled to Rwanda for the charity’s Clean Water Campaign.

And her commitment to gender equality has seen her work with the United Nations – receiving a standing ovation in 2015 for her speech to mark International Women’s Day.

Relationships

In September 2011, she wed film producer Trevor Engelson, who she began dating in 2004.

But the pair divorced two years later in August 2013, citing irreconcilable difference.

She was in a relationship with celebrity chef Cory Vitiello for almost two years, before they broke it off in 2016 but the two remain good friends.

And in June 2016, she met Prince Harry on a blind date set up by a mutual friend.

Their relationship began in October that year and just over one year later, on November 27, 2017, the pair announced their engagement.

They married on May 19, 2018 at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

Meghan’s heritage

Some have claimed Meghan Markle is the first mixed-race member of the Royal Family.

Historians are still arguing about Queen Charlotte, the wife of King George III.

But Meghan will be the first royal to openly embrace a mixed-race heritage.

She has written about the difficulties of being a biracial actress in Hollywood as she claims she is not black enough for some roles and not white enough for others.
