FIFA Puskas Award: Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, Mohamed Salah nominated but who else?

There have been some terrific goals on the world stage in 2018 and FIFA have now released their nominees for the Puskas Award.

The prize is given to the best goal scored in a season and FIFA have whittled down the list to 10 of the best strikes.

Ronaldo was awarded the UEFA goal of the season last week for his extraordinary overhead kick against Juventus in the Champions League quarter-finals.

But he faces stiff competition from an array of strikes from around the globe.

FIFA Puskas Award nominees

Ronaldo isn’t the only representative from Real Madrid’s campaign last season on the list with Gareth Bale’s stunning goal against Liverpool in the Champions League final making the cut.

Mohamed Salah was one of the breakout stars of last season, scoring 44 goals in all competitions.

FIFA have selected his strike in the Merseyside derby against Everton as the best of the bunch.

The 2018 World Cup also saw some wonder strikes with a number of goals making the list.

Lionel Messi’s skilful goal against Nigeria in the group stages was selected along with Denis Cheryshev’s wonder-strike against Croatia and Ricardo Quaresma’s audacious effort with the outside of his boot against Iran.

Perhaps the pick of the bunch was Benjamin Pavard’s stunning volley against Argentina, which was also named goal of the tournament.

FIFA also often include some otherwise non-household names on the list with Riley McGee, playing for the Newcastle Jets last season, has been nominated for his strike where he netted from outside the box with scorpion-style flick.

Lazaros Christodoulopoulos also makes the list for his bamboozling free-kick against Olympiakos with Giorgian de Arrascaeta’s ferocious scissor kick also in with a shot.
