Fortnite’s original mode continues to maintain a dedicated fanbase, even though they have to wait for new content release at a slower pace.

Unlike with Battle Royale, Fortnite Save the World updates each week aren’t chock-full of new items and LTMs.

However, Epic Games say they have plans to continue supporting STW, news which has been welcomed by the community.

Epic Games ended their commitment and long-term support of Paragon, which was linked to a dwindling userbase and the popularity of Battle Royale.

The development team went on record to say that they couldn’t work out “a clear path for us to grow Paragon into a MOBA that retains enough players to be sustainable.”

Lucky for Save the World fans, the same fate isn’t in store for their PS4, Xbox One and PC.

In fact, Epic Games has ambitious plans to help grow the playerbase in a way that’s almost guaranteed to work.

Save the World is going free-to-play in 2018, a big change that could create a huge boost.

There have also been rumours that season 5 could be the time we see this happen, although nothing has been revealed so far.

But it might be why fans are eagerly awaiting the next Save the World development roadmap from Epic Games.

New plans are shared by Epic on a regular basis with their STW fans on Reddit.

Last month included a lot of content updates, while the game also needed a fair few bugfixes.

Performance has been an underlying issue in the game for the past month and is something that is being addressed.

Item duplication was a big problem in-game which has since been fixed and has seen some players banned for abusing the exploit.

Other changes are a bit more complicated, especially when it comes to rewards not spawning from missions.

The good news is more fixes are being prepared for update 5.40, as well as rewards for those who have missed out.

“We’ve released two fixes to correct the no mission rewards bug; however, we are still seeing reports of this happening. We are diving into the updated reports to pinpoint why this is still occurring.

“We’ve been digging into solutions for these issues as well as a way to improve our process to avoid releases similar to this one.

“In our v5.40 update we’ll be pumping the brakes on some of the newer content in order to double down on performance (e.g. hitches on mission join, general console performance etc.).

“A longer technical post-mortem is on the way, but we want to fully ensure the ongoing issues are resolved before we break the technical bits down.

“We will discuss where our process broke internally, what resulted from that and how we’re working to fix it. We promised the postmortem for this week, and we’re sorry that we weren’t able to get this out to you sooner.

“In the meantime, we’ll be granting rewards to those of you who did not receive proper rewards when completing missions.

“These rewards will be based on the number and difficulty of the missions that failed to complete during the time the bugs were active.

“The complete grant will take around ~48 hours to complete. This rollout will begin as soon as the no mission rewards bug is fixed.”

“Additionally, we will be granting a packet of Mission Rewards and a Smorgasbord Llama to each player’s account in v5.40.”

If these issues are ironed out before the end of September, there still may be a chance that the FTP update will be released during season 5.

Fortnite Save the World free codes have become sought-after items, and are something that will be available to all later this year.

Alleged leaks have appeared online that claim season 5 will see STW follow Battle Royale in adopting the FTP model.

This would lead to a huge surge in player numbers, especially when you consider that STW can be used to farm V-Bucks.

These V-Bucks can be used in both versions of the game, making it possible to unlock new skins from the Fortnite item Shop.

STW fans aren’t looking to see more farmers arrive, but it’s fair to say that there would be plenty of genuine interest from Fortnite fans to try the mode as well.

Rumours appeared online earlier this year that season 5 may see STW go FTP, which has recently been repeated.

More information is expected to be shared before the start of September, although like all rumours, they should be taken with a big pinch of salt.

Epic Games have promised to take Save the World FTP in 2018, but have yet to provide a plan on when they intend to do it.

And with the current problem affecting the game, they will certainly need to fix the current performance issues before doing so.

Season 6 of Fortnite Battle Royale is expected to start around September 20, so there’s a clear timeline for when these changes need to happen.

Fortnite Save the World is a game developed by Epic Games and is currently available to buy on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
