Alleged prototype of Apple’s original iPhone appears on Ebay and attracts whopping bids

The original iPhone featured a 3.5-inch display with a resolution of 320×480 and came with 4GB of storage.

Apple’s device also touted 128MB of RAM and a 2 megapixel camera.

While such specifications were incredibly futuristic at the time, they appear archaic by today’s standards.

Before the original iPhone was released it was prototyped by the Cupertino-based tech giant.

An eBay seller by the name of 321dady recently listed an alleged iPhone prototype unit on his account that attracted whopping bids of up to $36,100 (£27,749).

The account that listed the product declared its was a first-generation prototype of the hardware.

The device allegedly runs an early software version that was not present in the original iPhone when it launched in the summer of 2007.

It was also said to have testing applications installed that appeared radically different to publicly released Apple software.

The back of the device appears the same as the final version of the original iPhone but it is plastered with a sticker that reads “Ver. 1.1.1”.

The rear also has labels for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and the four GSM bands it supposedly supported.

One of the most notably differences between the claimed prototype and other mass produced iPhones was the former was supposedly put together by hand in California.

This would mark a huge change from other iPhones that are manufactured in China.

The auction, spotted by TechRadar, also declared the supposed prototype was heavier than the final product.

The former was claimed to weigh 144.5 grams compared to the 135 grams of the original flagship.

A symbol of a bell was also present on the mute toggle at the top of the hardware, offering another small differentiation.

Although the auction was meant to last until September 7 it appears to have been taken down early.

It is currently unknown why the listing can no longer be found on eBay.
