Barcelona transfer news: Frenkie De Jong latest as Barca eye Kevin Kampl

Barcelona have tracked De Jong for much of the summer and the player is aware of their interest.

De Jong has supposedly told Ajax he is open to leaving the Dutch giants but only for Barcelona.

The Nou Camp club face a race against time to sign the midfielder, 21, before Friday’s transfer deadline.

And reports in Spain claim Barca have ‘parked’ their interest in De Jong for now in order to chase Kampl.

According to SPORT, Ajax have resolved to keep De Jong because they are all set to play in the Champions League group stage this season.

A 3-1 first-leg lead over Dynamo Kiev is not expected to be overturned by Thursday and, with the transfer deadline on Friday, there would not be enough time to complete the De Jong deal if they were knocked out of the tournament.

A move for Kampl is therefore on the cards, SPORT claim.

The RB Leipzig midfielder, 27, only joined the German side from Bayer Leverkusen last summer.

He was an integral part of Leipzig’s Bundesliga campaign last term and the German side do not want to lose him.

The Slovenia international has also been linked with Atletico Madrid as the Spanish and German transfer deadlines loom.

have had a relatively quiet window to date, with manager Ernesto Valverde mainly dealing with the departures of Paulinho and Andres Iniesta.

Malcom, Clement Lenglet, Arthur and Arturo Vidal have come into the side the Valverde could make one more deal happen before deadline day.
