Hurricane Lane closures: What schools, businesses and shops are CLOSED in Hawaii?

Hurricane Lane is powering towards the islands of Oahu and Kauai as major businesses close and residents flee to safety.

So far, Hurricane Lane has triggered severe flash flooding for much of Big Island, and mudslides have cascaded over roads.

As Hurricane Lane drives towards the furthest islands, government officials have warned to prepare for the worst, and shelters have been readied.

Hawaii Civil Defence warns that extreme caution should be exercised if people are intending to travel towards shelter at this time.

Which schools and businesses are closed?

Hurricane Lane is still looming over the Pacific Ocean, currently situated 180 miles (290 km) southeast of Kailua-Kona.

The Hawaii Police department has warned that due to more than a foot (30 cm) of rain and landslides, a number of streets closed until further notice.

Lane is still a powerful category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale, and although weakening is forecast, the storm will cause damage with tropical and hurricane winds.

Hurricane-force winds extend out up to 35 miles (55 km) from the centre and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 125 miles, impacting each Hawaiian island, resulting in a chain of closures.
