WWE news: Paul Heyman drops CM Punk bombshell after SummerSlam

Heyman and Punk worked together during The Second City Saint’s staggering 434-day run as WWE Champion from 2011 until 2013.

The ECW Legend was on the six-time world champion’s corner and helped him defend the title against the likes of John Cena, Ryback and Sheamus.

Heyman also played a vital role in The Straightedge Superstar’s rise to superstardom as he saw a lot of potential in him during his early days at OVW and pushed him to the top.

According to Cageside Seats, however, the legendary manager said that they do not talk or text these days and is not sure if the ex-WWE Champion will ever return to Vince McMahon’s promotion.

He told WFAN radio’s Benigno & Roberts: “I don’t text him at all. And… in this business I’ve learned never to presume that someone’s not coming back, but if anybody’s not coming back, he’s the exception that defines the rule.”

CM Punk left Vince McMahon’s promotion in 2014 immediately after the Royal Rumble citing creative differences and health issues.

The Second City Savior then quickly joined UFC but his performances in the Octagon weren’t as impressive as the ones he put together in WWE.

Punk lost his debut fight at UFC 203 to Mickey Gall who submitted him in two minutes and 18 seconds two years ago.

The former World Heavyweight Champion then lost to Mike Jackson via unanimous decision in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois at UFC 225.

Heyman now works with UFC legend Brock Lesnar and helped him break CM Punk’s record of longest world title reign of the modern era.

The modern era is defined by WWE as the post-Hulk Hogan years.

Lesnar held on to the Universal Championship for 504 days as he won the belt at WrestleMania 33 last year in April against Goldberg and lost it last Sunday at SummerSlam to Roman Reigns.

Heyman believes that The Beast had a more impressive title run than Punk even though he only defended the belt 11 times compared to the UFC star who put the WWE Championship on the line a staggering 141 times.

The advocate claims The Conqueror rose WWE’s stocks and took the business to greater heights.

He added: “What was the stock when CM Punk was the champion? What’s the stock now?

“I have news for everybody. I know this will come as a shock. I know this is the type of news… fans hate to hear. Ready? It’s a business. It’s a business.

‘So the stock, when CM Punk was champion was, what? 19? 20? 21? The stock is now at 80! $80 per share.

“Who was the main event of WrestleMania? Who is the main event of SummerSlam? Who’s the most featured performer? Who’s on all the billboards? Who’s on all the posters? Who right now has an advocate speaking for him on WFAN? Brock Lesnar. Stock’s at 80. Obviously something is being done that is correct.”
